Many dogs love swimming, but finding a place for them to swim can be a problem. Public pools are not open to dogs, and most human pools are not suitable for doggies due to chemicals and the filtration system. This is when a doggy pool comes in handy. Plus, not only does it give your pooch a place to swim, but it’s also a great cooling device in Ontario’s hot summer months. Dog pools look like kid’s pools, but they are quite different. They are usually PVC, like a kid’s pool, but they have a coating that can better withstand their nails. They come in all sizes to accommodate dogs of different weights and breeds, and are often collapsable is that you can take them with you when you travel or go camping.

Accidents can happen, as can pet emergencies, and just like we have human first-aid kits, it’s also a great idea to have a dog first-aid kit for your furry loved one. A DIY dog first aid kit should be kept in something that’s easy to travel with, that way you can bring it with you when you go on hikes, road trips, camping or to a cottage. Keep your dog first aid kit in a box, shoulder bag, backpack, fanny pack or container so that you can easily grab it and go. Having one in the car is also a good idea. You should, of course, always speak to your vet after your dog gets hurt. However, if you can’t get to the vet for care, or your pooch needs immediate treatment before you can reach a vet, you’ll be thankful that you have fist-aid kit handy.

Dogs are usually more than happy to go on a walk on their bare paws. However, sometimes the weather conditions make this harmful; like during an Ontario winter. Not only can your pooch’s paws get cold, but harsh chemicals used to melt the snow and ice are very harmful. They also cause a lot of discomfort, making their walk a lot less enjoyable. As well, snow and ice can collect and built up between your dog’s toes and on the under-pads of their paws, making walking uncomfortable and painful. Putting boots on a dog is not always an easy task. And watching them get used to having them on their feet will make any dog owner laugh! Once you get through the initial stages and your pooch starts to tolerate wearing winter boots, then walking will become just as enjoyable as it was during other seasons in Ontario.
